ABAP Cloud

ABAP Cloud development model

The restricted ABAP language version and development model for cloud-ready extensions: only released SAP objects, no direct access to SAP tables.

ABAP Cloud is the development model for Tier 1 extensions. Code is written in a restricted ABAP language version and may only use SAP objects that SAP has released for it, such as released CDS views, classes and RAP business objects.

The contract is enforced by the tools: typing against unreleased tables and structures is rejected at syntax check, obsolete statements are not part of the language version and direct writes to SAP tables are blocked. Dynamic call targets can only be checked at runtime.

Classic SAP GUI and ALV classes have no ABAP Cloud equivalent; user interfaces are built as Fiori apps.

In ERP Preflight

Clean Core Object Guard reports what keeps existing code from running in ABAP Cloud — unreleased objects, direct table access, obsolete syntax and dynamic calls that cannot be verified — and names the released successor where SAP publishes one.
